AUTHORITY TO REQUIRE PHOTO IDENTIFICATION TO FILE CERTAIN DOCUMENTS

SB 16 - Section 191.010(b). Local Government code, is amended to read as follows:  (b) A county clerk shall require a person presenting a document in person for filing in the real property records of the county to present a photo identification to the clerk.  The clerk shall copy the photo identification or record the information from the photo identification.  The clerk may not charge a person a fee to copy or record the information from a photo identification.  Effective 12/04/2025

      ONLINE RECORDS SEARCH

    Nolan County Property Records are searchable from sovereignty and include images.

    Nolan County Judicial Records are searchable from 2000 forward and are index only.

  • GENERAL INFORMATION

    The Nolan County Clerk is the local registrar of vital records for Nolan County, including birth, death and marriage records. Issuance of birth certificates is restricted to qualified applicants for 75 years from the date of filing.  Issuance of  death certificates is restricted to qualified applicants for 25 years from the date of filing.  BIRTH AND DEATH RECORDS ARE NOT OPEN FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION.  Only qualified applicants can obtain a certified copy of a confidential record.

    WHO IS A QUALIFIED APPLICANT?  The person whose record is being requested; The person’s immediate family member either by blood, marriage or adoption; The person’s guardian, legal agent or representative; or a person showing a direct and tangible interest in the record to implement a law or to protect personal property.

    Marriage records are available for licenses that are issued in Nolan County only

    and are accessible for research and inspection during regular business hours.

  •  NOTICE OF EXPIRATION FOR MARKS AND BRANDS
    In accordance with Article 144.044 of the Agriculture Code, Marks and brands that have been previously recorded will expire on August 30, 2021.  The owner of the brand will have from August 31, 2021 until February 28, 2022 to renew their mark or brand.  On March 1, 2022 All marks and brands that have not been renewed will have no force or effect  and will be available for use on a ‘first-come’ basis.

    MARK & BRAND APPLICATION

    To register a mark or brand, that is not currently taken, you will need to file an application with the County Clerk along with applicable fees.  The cost for registering a brand in Nolan County is $25 and $5 for each additional location of that brand on the animal.  All marks and brands expire on a set ten-year period.

    The re-registration period, for an existing brand, will be August 31, 2021 – February 28, 2022.  Failure to re-register a brand during this 6-month period will forfeit your legal right to that brand.

    If you have marks and brands registered in Nolan County, or in other counties in the State of Texas, it will be necessary for you to contact the office of the County Clerk in that county to renew your registration.  A person may register marks and brands in as many counties as necessary.

    Applications may be filed, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with the Nolan County Clerk at 100 East 3rd Street Suite 108, Sweetwater, TX  79556.
